Summary of the Year 2024

Year 2024 was full of remarkable events!
The projects below were part of our mission to bring educational content to our members and to bring our members together.
Sketchbook Tours
by Ken, Věra, Danael
January, February, April 2024
At the beginning of the year, we concluded our Sketchbook Tours series. These events were designed to foster mutual learning. Ken delivered an inspiring presentation on how to think about time when sketching. Věra shared her passion for sketching anywhere and anytime, while Danael inspired us with her use of various media and the addition of texts to her sketches. We had the opportunity to explore their sketchbooks and gain insight into the thoughts and design decisions behind their work.
Each of the tours took the participants through the story of their artistic development, discovering how they learnt and what inspired them.
Many thanks to Velký mlýn and Komunitní centrum Vráťa for providing their space to us.
Summer Challenge
from June 3rd to September 1st 2024
Over the summer, we distributed 25 Leuchtturm 1917 sketchbooks to our members, encouraging them to create at least one drawing a week to foster a habit of regular sketching. These sketchbooks became our faithful summer companions. At the end of the challenge, we gathered to share our sketches and experiences. It was delightful to see drawings from various locations and to hear the stories behind them.
Many thanks to Ústřední knihovna for providing spaces for our final gathering.
Designing with Thumbnails
workshop by Rajesh Dhawan
October 2024
This workshop was organised exclusively for our regular members to give them tools to make their choices of compositions more deliberate. During this hands-on workshop, we explored a powerful yet underrated tool that helps infuse our drawings with distinctive designs: the thumbnail. Rajesh explained the exercises in simple ways and always did clear demo for better understanding. At the same time, there was space left for keeping or developing each participant's own style.
Sketch Walks
from April to November 2024
This year, we organised 10 sketch walks, exploring different parts of Prague. Each walk included 4-5 stops, each lasting 15 minutes. These brief stops helped us quickly determine what was important to us to capture.
Three of the sketch walks were guided and focused on specific topics, architectural styles, or historical periods (functionalism, brutalism, Smíchov villas). Many thanks to our guides, Ezequiel and Ivana.
Already looking forward to the sketch walks of 2025. :)
Special thanks
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Rajesh Dhawan for dedicating his time to us, sharing his knowledge, and challenging us during his workshop. I also want to express my gratitude to Ken, Věra, and Danael for taking us on their creative journeys during their Sketchbook Tours. A big thank you to Ken Nash and Pavel Bulín for creating two videos for USk Prague. Thanks to the Municipal Library for always welcoming us. Special thanks to Leuchtturm 1917 for supporting our summer projects. And finally, thank you to all of you who attend our events, creating a friendly and supportive environment! ❤️
